5 Thrifted Outfit Ideas for Fall

We love a haul. Especially a winter haul! So what about a thrifted fall haul full of gorgeous, secondhand pieces??

I LOVE finding new pieces and fitting them into new looks! It’s so fun to create outfits while also doing it in a sustainable way. There’s something to be said about finding a secondhand piece that you love and giving it a new life. By incorporating it into pieces that you already own, you’re also exercising your creative muscles, trying new looks, and helping the environment!

I thrive on thrifting!

I’ve been thrifting for years now, my mom teaching my brother and I the ins and outs of thrifting, yard sales, etc. while we were growing up. In my adult life, thrifting clothes has come to the rescue when it comes to budgeting and saving money. Having a source where you can find almost anything in a style you prefer, while saving money, while also doing something for the environment is an incredibly good feeling. Thrifting for clothes has helped me so many times, from finding new outfits for work, to dresses for different events, to cute comfy outfits for cozy days.

I have five outfits that I wanted to share with you today. They all include pieces that I found while thrifting. All of these pieces I happened to find either two places: ThredUp or at Goodwill. However, there are thousands of secondhand shops, whether they be small shops or chains across the nation.

If you’re not sure what ThredUp is, ThredUp is the one of the world’s largest secondhand and consignment shops online. They have dedicated themselves to eliminating fashion waste and carbon emissions by providing a platform to give new life to clothing pieces. As of 2022, they have have processed a total of 172 million garments, have saved their buyers 5 billion dollars off of estimated retail prices, and have prevented 666 million pounds of carbon emissions. I don’t know about you guys, but I say, snaps for ThredUp! It’s extraordinary work!

Goodwill is a secondhand store that you have most likely heard of. They are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fight unemployment and underemployment while being a leading provider of educational and work-related resources. In 2022, they helped over 2.1 million individuals by creating job-training programs, employment placement, and other community based programs. Fabulous!

Inspiration can absolutely be found with thrifted pieces put together by someone else. Even though it is extremely rare to find the exact same pieces, you can always look for similar pieces in order to achieve the same look.

Thrifted Pieces put Together

The looks that I have for you today include pieces that are thrifted. Some include more thrifted pieces than others, but no outfit is entirely thrifted. A purpose of this article is to show how to incorporate thrifted pieces into an outfit and/or incorporate them. It’s not about being perfect! It’s about giving new life to a piece of clothing! 🙂

Here are five various looks for winter from business casual to cozy winter night in!

1. Business Casual

I bought this red skirt on ThredUp for $4.39. You read that right: $4.39! The deep red aired with a black turtleneck, some tights, and ankle booties, creates a perfect winter outfit for work! The skirt is a quilted material that emanates coziness and warmth for the colder months!

2. Semi-Business Casual

This photo is of blogger, Kylie, wearing a red turtleneck sweater, jeans and trench coat. The red turtleneck sweater has been thrifted, and the trench coat has been thrifted. The purpose of this photo is to show how thrifted pieces can be incorporated into readers' every day outfits.

This cozy, red turtleneck from Goodwill keeps me very warm! An extra layer of warmth is added when paired with this cute trench coat, also from Goodwill. I couldn’t believe I found it! Put them together with my jeans, a black belt, and black combat boots, I have a cute, casual, day outfit for casual Friday!

3. Comfort & Casual

Blogger, Kylie is standing in a field of grass while wearing a brown sweater and boyfriend jeans, a white, fur coat, and black combat boots.

This entire outfit (minus the boots) is from ThredUp. I literally bought the entire outfit together in a bundle, and it’s one of my FAVORITES! I bought all of these for $43.48! These jeans are so cute for day or nighttime, while also being soooo comfortable and casual because of the holes in the knees. This cropped sweater is perfect paired with a high waisted skirt or jeans. Lastly, this faux fur coat is SO warm, and it surprised me with how warm it was! It’s perfect for a winter’s day!

4. Leisure & Comfort

Blogger, Kylie, is standing in front of a stone fireplace while wearing blue casual pants and a grey sweatshirt. The purpose of this photo is to show a thrifted outfit put together for leisure and comfort.

These dark blue “athleisure” pants are perfect for running errands, traveling, doing tasks around the house, and lounging. They are very versatile, and were listed at $14.99! I paired it with this grey, plain, sweatshirt from Goodwill, which is so comfy and warm! In the summer, they’d be really cute with a tank top too!

5. Night Out

This high-low, floral dress was a steal when it was listed for $17.99 on ThredUp! I love how flowy and comfortable it is while also being dressy! This piece can honestly work all year round if you wanted, implementing seasonal accessories for whatever time of the year it is! For winter, I have it paired with my faux fur jacket again and black ankle boots or burgundy combat boots!

These five outfits are only scratching the surface of what you can when secondhand shopping for clothes! You can not only find treasures when you shop at ThredUp and Goodwill, but at any local or national secondhand store. The possibilities are endless. Not only can you save money when secondhand shopping, but you are pushing yourself creatively with fashion while helping a cause that benefits everyone and generations to come!
